fashion sense

Ada is developing a taste in clothing. Everytime she sees a different item on anyone in our family she yells 'new one, new one'. She loves trying on clothes when we get given some hand me downs. Her favourite so far is this red and gold number...

Great photo Uncle Hayd!

4th trimester style

Pregnancy jeans are a given. Thank you Jeanswest.

Bad hair is also a given, I barely look in the mirror at the moment so hair is a real touch and go scenario.
Sad things, this is a photo of my hair on a better day (good cut thanks Michelle!) and Olive has grown out of my fave newborn suit. Bye bye birdie.

Make up is a huge confidence boost post baby birth as any effort is noticed by loved ones. They prefer that to your 2 days + no shower self, go figure.

Green cowboy boots and new duffle coat make any breast feeding/post preg body outfit have some class. Thank goodness for wintery layers covering weird outfit of pregnancy clothes that don't fit right but fit better than your old clothes.
Ooo, award winning photography. Hmm all this captures is my lack of teal shoe polish. You get the drift though? Boots=littlebitcool.

Your 20 month old is more fashion than you.

what a week

This time last week I went into labour. It again took 3 nights for my daughter to enter the world! I'm slowly feeling like I'm returning to the wider world out of hospital but my world is currently all about breast feeding. Wahoo!

Things I missed while in hospital with Olive:
A trip to the museum. Fun times for under fives.  Isn't Ruby adorable?

Playcentre.
How fashionable is Ada under Cameron's watchful eye?
Tea parties with Dad. Enough said.

I also missed Ada having a horrible time with hand foot and mouth all week. Apparently a mild case  as she was happy enough to attend the above photo shoots. Ada didn't really eat while I was away. This is RARE. Poor girl was saying she had a sore mouth and the doctor found an ear infection and missed the rest. Sigh. It is good to be home.

Cam, you have done an amazing job this week. Go team!

Ada and I clash skintones!

This week I have managed to change the colour of Ada’s skin, twice. Motherhood fail. On Sunday the sun was shining in the most glorious way and when Ada woke up Cam and I went for a stroll with her in the front pack. We don’t use the front pack as much as we used to and she loves it! So-much-fun. Unfortunately the strength of the NZ sun at 2.30pm on a winter’s day was no match for her brand new baby skin. Ada has had her first sunburn. Not a milestone I was intending to celebrate.

Also this week in photos of the two of us I have noticed that our skin clashes! In winter I resort to wearing some dark tones that I don’t suit that well and I look all rosy and pale (ruddy and washed out?!). Ada on the other hand has been eating pumpkin and carrot at most lunches/dinners for the past week or more and although she is more olive than me now she has a slightly orange hue. As an adult your palms change colour with a lot of beta-carotene but it seems my babies nose has got the bulk of the colour effect.

on her way to fame and fortune

Yesterday Ada had her first encounter with a real NZ A-list celebrity (actually my first too)! We were at Little and Friday in Newmarket and I chatted with Denise L’Estrange Corbett about feeding a baby with a spoon attached to a plastic pouch and she and her daughter oohed and ahhed over how cute Ada was!  Ada was doing a great job of eating vanilla custard.  It smelt delicious and had real vanilla pod in it!  It was a win-win day for Ada.

more style than Mum
I am feeling the need for some style. I don’t really do comfy clothes. When I want to be comfy I end up wearing old clothes. Unintentionally I have been rocking some hobo chic lately and majoring on the hobo rather than chic.

It is such an effort to get out the door with your baby bag, pram and baby, so sadly fashion takes a back step when I am making sure I have 1 million baby supplies on hand. This could be an example of my maternal instincts, I am putting my babies needs before my own. It could also be an example of ‘oh my goodness I am bored and Ada is bored let’s get out of here, now’.

not her 'lets get out of here face'
I can’t leave this to chance much longer, the old clothes are to be banished and a Mum uniform is in order. A bit of back to basics, what outfits do I have, does that coral T shirt go with this grey argyle sweater? Incidentally, no. Normally I don’t plan what to wear, my love of organisation has never spread this far. Needing to nurse Ada and to not cover everything with baby spew does put some constraints on your wardrobe. Time for a plan, maybe even a list, or a diagram! Tally ho!

Finally, something to think about. I presume you have heard of Mom jeans? So it turns out you can just have a Mom butt. All flat and that, in any jeans. Hmm.
